The Giving Flower: The Story of the Poinsettia (Hardcover)

The Giving Flower: The Story of the Poinsettia Words by Alda P. Dobbs Pictures by Emily Mendoza. Hardcover Children's Illustrated Book About Christmas/Navidad and Mexican Culture

Alda P. Dobbs and illustrator Emily Mendoza come up with a lyrical and vibrant picture book history of the flower that has given the world so much. A gorgeous juvenile nonfiction picture book illustrating the history of the Poinsettia Flower. With its beautiful illustrations we learn how the flower grew wild- a yellow blossom with leaves turning red in winter. And how the ancient Nahuas cultivated it, then it inspired Mexico’s most famous Christmas legend. We learn how it became known as the Poinsettia, and the many more names it cultivated. A flower that holds many traditions, colors, nations and seven centuries of existence.

“A flower of flames with so many names gives in countless ways. Its history is long and its legacy is strong. You just wait and see…”
