Santa Cruz Pochote Burnished Clay Planter Handmade in Santa Cruz de Cachán, Michoacán

This large red clay vase was handmade in Santa Cruz de Cachán using barro alisado, a traditional technique that involves shaping the piece on a rustic lathe and then patiently burnishing it with a river stone to create a smooth, natural finish. The form evokes the curves of a pochote seed pod, with subtle ridges and sculpted lines that give the surface a grounded, organic presence.

Fired in a wood-burning kiln, the piece carries deep tones and fire markings unique to the process. It works beautifully as a planter, a vessel for dried branches or flowers, or as a standalone decorative piece that reflects the coastal roots of its origin with its deep terracota color.
