Barro Negro Traditional Wide Carved Vase

Barro Negro Wide Vase with Bamboo Base handmade in San Bartolo Coyotepec, Oaxaca

This wide vase feels calm and intentional, with carved openings that invite light to move across its surface. The rounded body and low profile give it a quiet presence that works beautifully on tables, shelves, or entryway furniture. Each carving is done by hand, giving the surface a soft rhythm that changes slightly from piece to piece.

Crafted in San Bartolo Coyotepec, Oaxaca, this vase is made from barro negro, a clay that turns black through a traditional firing process where oxygen is reduced inside the kiln. No dyes or glazes are used. The deep tone and subtle sheen come entirely from this ancestral method. The carving is done after shaping, making every opening and pattern unique. It can be used as a decorative vessel, for dry botanicals, or simply as a sculptural object.
